In this pilot study, colestimide was well tolerated and improved both glycemic (an absolute 1% reduction in HbA1c levels) and lipid control (a 23% reduction in LDL-C levels) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Interestingly, triglyceride levels were not significantly affected. Adding colestimide might be useful in diabetic patients who cannot reach LDL-C targets with statin monotherapy.
